First
and foremost, the Clowns exist to support the work of the
The Shriners Hospitals for
Children
Our purpose is to bring to the young and
old, and particularly the sick and crippled children in our
community and elsewhere, the tonic of frivolous fun that will
add to the enjoyment of life and promotion of the physical and
mental healing, and to bring to the Nobles of the Shrine a
greater appreciation of life by means of capricious clowning!
(Basically
that means nobody is exempt from our antics!)
Nobles and their wives and families are favorite targets.
We
actively participate in the Shrine Circus, Hospital Dad's Christmas
Party, the
Potentate's Ball, clinics for Shrine patients, parades and unit
fundraisers and other Temple functions as well as
visiting local hospitals.
Each
clown develops his own unique character, provides his own costume
and
does his own make-up. The unit provides the balloons
for all the fabulous
balloon sculptures we make.
Our
social activities are many. We have potluck dinner meetings (ladies invited),
circus dinner,
Christmas party, breakfast gatherings and many more.
The
fun doesn't stop there! It's
not uncommon for clowns to stop at a restaurant after an event
to eat and entertain (terrorize) the patrons and staff.
