"2
to Grow"
That is the phrase that each noble needs to keep
in mind. Think about it. For our
membership to grow, to actually
increase, every noble needs to bring in at
least 2
new nobles. That's 1 noble to replace yourself and 1 new
noble for growth.
I would like to
challenge the nobility to seek out prospective
new members. Talk to them and bring them
to the shrine center. Be active in your
Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and York Rite
bodies, keep a petition handy and promote
the Shrine. Remember that we are all
part of the Masonic family and invite them to
join us!

RETENTION
Retention of nobles is as critical to the
success of our membership efforts as
recruitment. It is the obligation of
every unit and noble to support Imperial and Za-Ga-Zig. Support us not only with
words but also with action.
Each unit needs to
look at their unit by-laws and make sure that
they support Za-Ga-Zig's recruitment and
retention initiatives. Ask yourselves,
are they too restrictive or too demanding for
a volunteer organization? Do they tend
to discourage prospective members from joining
or cause members to drop out or become
inactive?
Remember, the litmus
test for a unit activity or by-law is that it
must favorably represent and support the
initiatives of the Shrine of North America and
Za-Ga-Zig.
Finally, we must take
a look at ourselves and our interaction within
the unit and the Shrine Center. Are we
being supportive of one another and
interacting in good faith with our brothers?
It is common to have disagreements and
competition among members of an organization.
Please remember that we are not just any
organization. We are Master Masons and
Nobles. We must be able to work through
our differences, and focus our efforts and
ambitions on the common good of the unit and
Shrine. Research has shown that
one of the main complaints listed by Nobles
who have left the Shrine is that they got tired
of the internal bickering. Sound
familiar? Check out the Tater
People.
This year at the
Potentate's Ball and the ceremonials, make an effort to shake the
hand of the new Nobles. Introduce yourself to them
and ask them if they have joined a unit or a
club and tell them about your unit.
When new members join your unit or club
introduce yourself to them, involve them,
mentor them and make them feel a part of your
group. Nobles who have dropped out
also list "Not feeling a part of
the group" as a frequent
reason.
Please invest time in these new
Nobles. Remember how little you actually
knew about the Shrine after just completing the
ceremonial? We need to assist them in
discovering all that Za-Ga-Zig has to offer.
Finally,
we have to provide fun social activities and
involve their families if we are to be
successful in attracting and retaining Nobles
that are young, family men. Include
their ladies in activities and provide fun
events for the children.

RESTORATION
|
Restoration
of nobles is also important to the success of our
membership efforts. If you know of a noble who has
dropped his membership, talk to him to see why and
encourage him to renew his membership and become
active. Invest the time and effort to restore
a lost
noble.
Contact the Restoration Chairman
or the Samsar and we will
gladly assist you in making a contact, helping to find
resolution to issues and assisting the noble upon
return. We don't want anyone to feel abandoned or
lost. We will show them what Za-Ga-Zig has to offer
and assist them in finding the right Unit or Club.
