Game Day - July 24th


IOWA SHRINE BOWL COACHES & STAFF


The Iowa High School Football Coaches Association has selected the Head Coaches for the 2010 Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Classic.  The game will be played Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 7:00 P.M.  at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames.

South Squad - The South Squad is the Home team and will be on the west side of Jack Trice Stadium.  The Head Coach is Bob McCoy, Bedford H.S..  He has selected as his assistant coaches: 

  • Brian Sauser of Iowa City West HS, Iowa City

  • Michael Whisner of A-D-M HS, Adel

  • Jon Pedersen of Central Decatur HS, Leon 

  • Lyle Alumbaugh of Panorama HS, Panora

  • Pete Cavanagh of Mid-Prairie-Wellman HS, Wellman

North Squad - The North Squad is the visiting team and will be on the east side of Jack Trice Stadium.  The Head Coach is Roger Jansen, Bishop Heelan Catholic, Sioux City.  

He has selected as his assistant coaches: 

  • Mark Ehlers of Dubuque-Hempstead HS, Dubuque

  • Joe Hadachek of Union Community HS, LaPorte City

  • Shawn Meth of Eagle Grove HS, Eagle Grove

  • Mike Dunlap of Emmetsburg HS, Wellman

  • Graham Lundt, Akron-Westfield HS, Akron

The Coaches have selected 46 players for each Squad.  The selections are made from nominations received from the high school coaches around the state.

Invitations will be sent to the selected players on December 19th and they will have until January 4th to accept or decline to play in the All-Star game.  Most feel it a great honor to be selected and have had this as a goal during their entire football career.

The 2010 game will be the 38th annual All-Star game, which has raised over $2,000,000 for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.  There are 19 orthopedic hospitals in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Hawaii, 3 burn centers in the United States and 1 unit in the US that treats all types of cases.  

We have been privileged to have some of the finest football players participate in this prestigious game – many who has gone on to excel at the college and professional level.  Regardless of the score – everyone is a winner in the All-Star game – especially our hospital kids!  

CHEERLEADING SQUAD

Cheerleaders - The cheerleading coaches for 2010 are Mindy DeBaun - Prairie Valley- Gowrie, Salli J. Nichols – Storm Lake, and Sandy Norby - Osage.
